Veterinary Nurse – Part Time

Wellington Zoo’s vision is to ignite a zoo revolution and we are committed to ‘leading the way’ and ‘saving animals in the wild’. This includes providing expert animal care for the Zoo’s animal collection and native wildlife that is brought to The Nest Te Kōhanga for treatment. The Nest Te Kōhanga is a unique part of the Wellington Zoo’s offer to our community. It helps us to connect people with animals and provides our visitors with unrestricted viewing of our Veterinary Science team in action.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Veterinary Nurse to join our team. Reporting to The Nest Te Kōhanga Practice Manager the successful candidate will need to be confident engaging with our visitors whilst assisting with veterinary procedures. They will also need to be available to work on a roster based on 80 hours worked over a four week period that will include some weekends. We are looking for someone that shares our values, has a strong green furry heart and cares about animals, people and our environment. The Veterinary Nurse will assist The Nest Te Kōhanga team with animal health management, preventative healthcare, maintaining animal records and they will work closely with managers and staff across the Animal Care team.

To be considered for this opportunity you will need to have:

  • A current veterinary nurse qualification that is recognised in New Zealand
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical vet nursing experience
  • Demonstrated veterinary nursing experience. Experience with wildlife and exotic animals is an advantage
  • The ability to work unsupervised
  • A proactive attitude supported by an attention for detail and excellent observational and time management skills
  • A good level of PC literacy and familiarity with medical record systems.
  • Excellent communication and visitor engagement skills.

We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our support team at Northland Veterinary Group. Join a team that is passionate about giving excellent care to animals in a 7 day/week practice.

The successful person will be someone who is enthusiastic, engaged and energized; and loves to give the best care to animals. You will have outstanding communication skills so you can build relationships with our clients and their pets. You will be a very organised person, and will need to provide outstanding customer service.

The position is a mixed role involving Vet Nursing, Reception and Showroom Sales in any of our 3 clinics, but will mostly be based in our Maunu Rd Clinic.

A Veterinary Nurse qualification along with at least 2 years recent experience as a Vet Nurse is essential. You must be passionate about animal care, and have excellent medical and surgical vet nursing skills. Farming experience will be advantageous.

This is a fixed term position for about 4 months to cover a temporary absence. It is a 4 day/week position, with relief work also available. You must be able to work Sundays.

We have an in-house full laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, CT scanner, oscillometric blood pressure, ECG, endoscopy, full fluid therapy, resuscitation and more.
