We are a referral surgery practice located in the heart of the mighty Waikato here in Hamilton. We offer a range of advanced surgical services, predominantly orthopaedic surgery, but also provide a wider range including soft tissue surgeries and spinal surgery.

Our team is led by our surgeon with a wealth of experience after working as a registered Specialist Veterinary Surgeon with the South African Veterinary Council. As a sole-surgeon practice our Veterinary Nurse team work to the full extent of our qualifications and skill set and duties include (but are not restricted to):

  • Admission and discharge of patients
  • Full range of anaesthesia duties
  • Radiography (our nurses take all x-rays!)
  • Assist with advanced imaging off site (CT/MRI)
  • Frontline communication with our clients and referring Veterinarians
  • Hospital care of inpatients, and post operative care of surgical cases
  • General Veterinary Nurse duties – I.V Catheter placements; blood sampling; assisting surgeon with consultation
  • Surgical assistant role – scrubbed in as a theatre nurse/assistant
  • Instrument and implant care and sterilization – sterile supply duties
  • Cleaning to high level protocols, including theatre
  • Bandaging
  • Post operative rechecks and nurse consultations

Above all us we are looking for a confident nurse who is passionate and willing to learn. Someone who can fit into our small team, which are geared to provide our patients with top standard care and service. Good communication skills are essential. Some experience is vital but we are willing to consider applicants of all experience levels who fit the other criteria to be able to excel here at VetSOS.

This is a full time position, including no rostered weekend work (but does include some sporadic inpatient care if we have high – needs patients in at the weekend). Due to the nature of our work flexibility of hours would be ideal, as we do deal with urgent/emergency cases.

Expressions of interest for Veterinary Nurse/Clinic Coordinator Position at The Referral Centre Tauranga Satellite Clinic – Exotics Referral

 

A new satellite referral clinic for exotic referrals is opening in sunny Bay of Plenty! We are after expressions of interest for veterinary nurses interested in working in exotics, critical care and afterhours emergency nursing.

The Bay Referral Centre will work in collaboration with the Bay After Hours Veterinary Hospital and will be open a couple of days per week initially with the room to grow as the clinic grows. There will also be a requirement for a weekend shift at the Bay After Hours to support the exotic expert with hospitalised cases. The clinic will be set up with specialised equipment to enable us to give the best standard of care to these special patients!

You will be a dedicated, professional, experienced vet nurse with great attention to detail and the passion to work in a positive, forward-thinking nursing team.

You will be fully trained and assisted during your induction by our exotics expert.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • client relations and coordination of exotic referrals and appointments
  • ordering of specialised medications and maintenance of specialised equipment
  • handling and treating of exotic pets
  • patient evaluation, triage, CPR and wound care
  • care and monitoring of exotic hospitalised patients
  • anaesthesia of exotic pets
  • digital radiography and lab testing
  • fluid therapy and blood transfusion

We will have an in-house full laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, oscillometric blood pressure, ECG, fluid therapy, constant rate infusion, resuscitation and more.

You will be able to work well in a fast paced environment and must be:

  • self-motivated and good at multi-tasking
  • communicate effectively with clients and staff
  • a good team player and willing to work extra hours
  • enthusiastic and compassionate
  • experience in exotics is preferred but if you are comfortable in your handling skills, we are happy to provide training to the right applicant
  • skilled at using computers and being familiar with VetLink software would be an advantage
  • a qualified veterinary nurse with at least 2 years’ experience (less experience for the right candidate is considered)
  • applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
