Massey University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital has a Veterinary Nurse position available within the Companion Animal Hospital. The position is full-time, ongoing, and working as part of a rotating roster.

We are seeking applications from either qualified veterinary nurses or veterinary technologists to work primarily in our Anaesthesia service, which provides support across our Companion Animal, Farm, Equine, and Wildlife hospitals.

What we can offer

The anaesthesia service works out of a dedicated anaesthesia suite and provides anaesthesia services to companion animals, equine, and on occasion production animal and wildlife animals.

You will be working alongside Veterinary professionals in New Zealand's only veterinary teaching hospital facility.

Massey Vets provides 24/7 Emergency Critical care for Vet clinics throughout the wider Manawatu-Whanganui region. Alongside our Community Practice and Referral clinics, this leads to a both challenging and extremely rewarding work environment.

Massey's Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a state-of-the-art, fast-paced facility offering New Zealand's most comprehensive veterinary expertise. We are the only 24-hour pet emergency centre in the central North Island so at times we have a high caseload, and our patients require a very high level of nursing care.

About you

The successful applicant will provide high-quality nursing care and technical support as part of the nursing and anaesthesiologist team. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual, who possesses excellent communication skills, is self-motivated, super organised, and a passion for education.

As part of Massey Vets, you will be involved in the teaching of Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Bachelor of Veterinary Technology students. We are able to offer opportunities for development in other areas of the Companion Animal Hospital, meaning flexibility and willingness to work in other areas is a necessity.

You will be expected to work on a rostered basis between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm on either an early or late shift, including some after hours and on-call work. Your ability and willingness to work on-call for evenings, weekends, and public holidays is essential.

Essentials:

  • Vet Nursing qualification of Diploma or above
  • Minimum one years' experience with veterinary anaesthesia in companion animal veterinary practice, consideration will be given to new graduates of BVT or DVN programmes
  • Flexibility to work on a rotating roster
  • Natural empathy toward the cultural, emotional and physical state of our clients and patients alike
  • A team player with a positive attitude
  • A genuine interest in undergraduate education
  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand
