Normal work days are 8 hours Monday to Friday with a shared weekend roster on 1 in 6 weekends.

You will be busy and challenged, but you will get great professional satisfaction from the role as our nurses are encouraged to utilize their nursing skills at all levels. You will also get to enjoy working with the best equipment in a modern clinic. Plus we have a great team ready to welcome you.

This is a Veterinary Nursing role that would suit some-one with a New Zealand registerable qualification in Veterinary Nursing at a minimum of the diploma level or a degree in Veterinary Technology. Usually a standard 8 hour day is worked with a set roster being shared with other staff between the hours of 8.00am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday. There will be a requirement to be part of a week night and weekend on-call shared roster.

Remuneration is in line with industry rates and will be determined by the skills and experience you bring to the organisation.

Lecturer - Veterinary Nursing

UCOL’s Health Science Faculty is seeking a highly motivated academic, or a suitably qualified Veterinary professional who wishes to move into academia as a clinical lecturer in the New Zealand Diploma in Veterinary Nursing. This is a fixed term 36 hours per week (0.9FTE) parental leave position until May 2021 based at the Palmerston North campus.

The New Zealand Diploma in Veterinary Nursing qualifies you as a Vet Nurse. It also opens the door for its graduates to a broad range of animal health careers - from vet clinics, zoos, animal shelters, pet shops, wildlife parks, laboratories to agricultural and animal health sales and as the clinical lecturer of this programme you will be naturally inspiring, bringing a passion and love of this career path which will flow through your programme delivery and guidance to all within the class.

As a clinical lecturer you will spend most of your time at our associated vet clinics supervising and assessing students on their clinical skills. In addition there will be teaching clinical skills in simulated situations on campus. There may be the opportunity to share the clinical teaching role and have some of your time doing classroom teaching. The subjects you will be teaching will be: anaesthesia, medical and surgical nursing; and may include diagnostics, reception animal care and behaviour. Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm are key to clinical teaching. In order to deliver the best programme to your students you will be expected to use effective teaching skills that meet the needs of a variety of students.

You will have a Veterinary Nursing Diploma (Level 6) or equivalent. It would be a strong advantage if you had at least two years industry experience. Previous teaching experience and completion of the Certificate in Adult Teaching (Advanced) (CATA) or equivalent would be of benefit to students.
