2025 Annual General Meeting summary

Each Annual General Meeting (AGM), the NZVNA reports on our achievements from the previous year. Here is the summary from the 2025 AGM, covering our achievements from June 2024 to June 2025. 

  • Our partnership with the New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA) continues to flourish. Together, we’re working to ensure the best outcomes for the veterinary sector as a whole. 
  • We are proud to continue to support AVPRC as they work toward achieving legal status change for veterinary nurses and other AVPs.  
  • We launched two exciting new awards this year: The Workplace Wellbeing Champion Award, in collaboration with Royal Canin, and the Clinical Excellence Award, supported by Boehringer Ingelheim.
  • Our joint initiative with Boehringer, Taking Animal Health Forward, has sparked national conversations, with media coverage in national and local newspapers and radio interviews. 
  • We’ve also relaunched the NZVNA blog, a space to share stories, insights, and experiences from within our community.
  • We continue to represent you on key boards and associations, including: International Veterinary Nurses and Technicians Association (IVNTA), World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA), Companion Animals NZ (CANZ), and Healthy Pets NZ.
  • This year, we achieved a major advocacy win. Working alongside AVPRC, NZVA, VCNZ, and MPI, the restrictions on sub-gingival scaling were reversed. Veterinary Nurses can now legally perform this procedure again—an incredible outcome for our profession. 
  • We’re proud to share that NZVNA has taken the Pride Pledge, affirming our support for our queer and rainbow whānau. 
  • Eleven webinars were delivered, with registrations from 1000 members, AVPs and veterinary nurses from across the globe. We also supported other webinars.  
  • 60 hours of free counselling and support was provided to our members via Telus Health.
  • In the past 12 months, we were joined by 260 new members.
  • Nine members were supported to attend the conference via competitions and awards.
  • We published 20 blog posts.
  • $8000 worth of CPD was paid out for members, in the form of CPD grants. More will come later in the year.
  • We received 36 nominations for the 2024 Vet Nurse of the Year Award.
  • One member was supported to attend the VNCA conference in Australia, along with an NZVNA executive committee member, continuing our support and collaboration with our Australian colleagues.   
  • Four members of the NZVNA executive committee attended the Veterinary Business Group symposium, ensuring our collective AVP voice was heard.
  • More than 100 members participated in the Emerging Leaders programme.
